Wooden spoon for Scots in home internationals

BOWLS: While England celebrated success in the Men’s Home International Series in Dublin yesterday, winning the title decider in a head to head against Ireland, a bitterly disappointed Scotland team finished pointless and with the wooden spoon.

They were pegged back over the latter stages in their opening match by England and missed out 120-115, and then met the same fate against Ireland as they too came good on the finishing line to oust the Scots 108-102. England and Ireland had both beaten Wales and went head to head for the title yesterday, with England producing a grandstand finish over the last quarter of the match to take the title 129-109.

However, at the other end of the table, Scotland and defending champions Wales were battling it out to avoid the wooden with Scotland once again making the early running only to lose out over the second half of the match and go down 131-114. Troon’s Paul Foster was the top Scottish rink and one of only four skips across the board who won all their matches.
