Wilson-Young embarks on latest gold rush with Scottish time trial title

Capital cyclist Jessica Wilson-Young added another gold medal to her sizeable collection when she landed the Scottish women’s 50-mile time trial title at Freuchie. The Edinburgh RC rider clocked a time of two hours two minutes 31 seconds to give her a winning margin of almost two minutes over runner up Sian Tovey (Dooleys RT), with third-placed Shelley Farr (Deeside Thistle) five and a half minutes down on Wilson-Young. Meanwhile, weather permitting, the second half of the DHL Meadowbank National Track League programme will get underway tonight (first race 7.15pm).

The league schedule is split into two mini seasons although the overall title will not be finalised until the last night of racing on August 31.

At the half way point, Bruce Croall (City of Edinburgh) remains on course to land the title for a sixth successive year. The British kilometre champion has a handy 35-point lead over his nearest challenger Dave Martin (Bicycleworks).

Croall’s team-mate Charline Joiner heads the women’s table, while Ayrton Pellet (Edinburgh RC) leads the way in the junior competition.
