Wilson will keep his feet on the ground

EUROPEAN TOUR: England’s Oliver Wilson knows better than most not to get ahead of himself despite charging into the Madeira Islands Open halfway lead with a superb 65 yesterday. The former Ryder Cup player from Mansfield has had no fewer than nine runners-up finishes on the European Tour, but has yet to taste victory – and last season lost his card.

Wilson stands on 13-under 131 after his second bogey-free round of the week. Swedes Magnus Carlsson and Joakim Lagergren are one behind along with Wilson’s compatriot, Andy Sullivan, going into today’s third round.

Alastair Forsyth is the best-placed Scot after carding 68 to lie six shots off the pace. Chris Doak (68), Andrew McArthur (68), Gary Orr (69) and Jamie McLeary (69) are one shot further back, while Lloyd Saltman (73) and Raymond Russell (70) also made the cut.
