Whitty urges Rangers to show United front

Steven WHITTAKER has urged Rangers not to blow their chances of a title boost against Dundee United for a second time when they travel to Tannadice tomorrow.

The champions missed out on the chance to move top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League when they suffered a 3-2 defeat to United earlier this month.

Rangers are now back at the summit thanks to a hard-fought 2-1 win over St Mirren on Saturday and now have the chance to stretch their lead to four points before Celtic are next in SPL action.

"It's a different type of game, Dundee United are doing well," said Saturday's match-winner Whittaker. "Our record is not bad up there but it's going to be a difficult game and we need to be up for that as well."

A win midweek would mean Rangers heading into the final Old Firm derby of the season in pole position regardless of Celtic's result at Kilmarnock on Wednesday.

Whittaker added: "We went top on Saturday and we could stretch the gap a bit. It puts the pressure on them to pick up the points they need but we are focusing on us. It's a big game for us and we are looking to win it."

Sasa Papac's opener was cancelled out at Ibrox by Saints' Darren McGregor before Whittaker kept his nerve to grab the winner from the penalty spot.
