Wheeler is on track for Capital title

Christopher WHEELER, 13, will be the player to beat when the Royal Dynasty Edinburgh Table Tennis Championships take place in Penicuik’s Ladywood Sports Centre tomorrow (starting 10am).

The top-seeded youngster will hope to continue the form that has seen him undefeated in 30 Edinburgh and Lothians league matches. However, lining up in opposition will be most of the top Edinburgh and Lothians League players.

Amongst those who stand in Wheeler’s way are his Murrayfield team mates Colin Dalgleish (last year’s runner-up) and Blair Fowler, as well his brother Alex.

Defending champion, Willie Mabon will be keen to avenge a recent loss to Wheeler and he leads a strong contingent from North Merchiston, including Stewart Armitage, Eddie Scott and able junior Ying Jin.

The host club, Penicuik, will be represented by Martin Mackay and Colin Green.

Mabon will be the favourite in the Veterans (over 40s) event, while Russell Frith of North Berwick is likely to be the man to beat in the Division One competition.

There are events scheduled for players in all four Edinburgh and Lothians divisions as well as age group categories for juniors.
