West of Scotland 33 - 49 Heriot's

EVENTUALLY, six tries beat five, but it looked as though the scoring would be all one way when Heriot's led 19-0 after 15 minutes.

Straight from the first turnover of the game Jamie Syme powered 30 metres for the first try. Others soon followed by Colin Goudie after a lineout drive and Jonny Alston who left his wing base to score under the bar. It was the 23rd minute before West reached the Heriot's 22 – but this was a sign of things to come. Following thrusts from front row colleagues Gordon Bulloch and Calum Hastie, Creag Johnston touched down.

In 39 minutes, from an overthrown West lineout ball, Heriot's flanker Struan Dewar scored, but there was just time for West's Michael Sim to close the half with a try, the conversion added to his two previous successes.

Heriot's turned 29-14 ahead thanks to three conversions and a penalty from Graham Wilson, but West soon narrowed the gap with a Graham Fisken try converted by Sim. Heriot's pulled away with a Wilson penalty and his conversion of Goudie's try. A splendid try by Richard Dalgleish ensured a vital bonus point for West.
