West of Scotland 12 - 45 Hawick: Seven-up Hawick cruise at Burnbrae

Hawick ultimately cruised to a seven-try victory and could even relax in the latter stages and allow their hosts a couple of scores.

In the first half, when the Greens were good they were very, very good, and when West were poor, they were awful.

Hawick took the lead through a crisp handling interchange in the 12th minute. The move was rounded off by prop Sean Linton with Rory Hutton converting.

However, the Greens allowed West to get possession from the restart and camp in their 22.

However the home side repeatedly messed things up and Hawick were able to break upfield with Stuart Hogg touching down.

This pattern continued until, with Hawick unable to add to their score, West ended the half on another toothless attack only for Hawick to stage another long-range break out ended by Graham Hogg touching down to give then a 19-0 half-time lead.

West coach Keith Robertson's half-time instructions were so strident they could be heard at the back of the stand.

However, only five minutes after the resumption Hawick again burst up field and Stuart Hogg scored the bonus point try under the bar and converted himself. The game was effectively over and Hawick added further tries through Hutton, Keith Davies and Stuart Hogg.
