Weirs aiming to spoil Doonhamers' party

WEIRS president Craig Greenwood last night made it clear that he and his clubmates are in no mood to host a championship party for Dumfries.

Anything other than a heavy defeat will take the title to the far south-west, but the Glasgow men underlined their determination to make them bite and scratch all the way to the finishing line.

Greenwood said: "It has been pretty obvious for some time that Dumfries would emerge with the title but we don't want to witness them doing it in our backyard. And I really think it would be much nicer for them to make sure of the glory down at their place!

"Seriously, we have our own fate to worry about and we will be going flat out for the win we need to make sure of our survival at this level. It would be a double whammy if we could achieve that this weekend - and make Dumfries wait a little longer for their celebrations."

Greenwood added: "It will be very tough for us because we don't have a pro, but we have proved on occasions this season that we can beat the big teams ."

The most intriguing tussle of the day could be the local derby between Renfrew and Ferguslie at King George V Park. Both sides have shaped up as challengers to Dumfries.

Corstorphine are the latest squad to attempt to put the clamps on SMRH pro Jon Kent, who has made such a massive impression since his return from South Africa.

Defeat for Kelburne at Freuchie would give them a lofty mountain to climb to haul themselves out of the basement.

At Boghall, West Lothian - despite a recent jittery spell - should be too strong for Imans Edinburgh..
