Weir leads way for Scots with silver

GYMNASTICS: David Weir (Greenwood Academy) claimed a silver medal on the floor in a successful Scottish team trip to at the Austrian Futures Cup in Linz.

James Griffin (St Thomas of Aquin’s, Edinburgh) finished seventh overall, while Kelvin Cham (Paisley Grammar) was fifth on the vault.

Jamie Carpenter, the Newcastle-based Scot who won gold at the UK Schools’ Games in Sheffield in September, was the fourth member of the team and is currently working on upgrading his routines.

Fourteen countries took part in the event and the Scottish team coaches were Jim Holt and John Campbell.
