Weekend slot for cup ties

THE Co-operative Insurance Cup semi-finals have been shifted to the last weekend in January. Previously played in midweek, gates for the last-four ties have been disappointing in recent years, prompting a switch to Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 January 2011 this term.

David Longmuir, the Scottish Football League's chief executive, thanked the Scottish Premier League for facilitating the switch with only league games involving clubs already out the competition taking place that weekend. "This is a new departure for us," he said. "It's down to good working relationships with other bodies and I hope everyone will be pleased with the change."
