Weakened Linlithgow enjoy morale-boosting victory

LINLITHGOW ROSE proved they have strength in depth after winning in the Dechmont Forklift League Cup despite missing several key players.

The 3-1 morale-boosting victory over Newtongrange Star was a dogged one, with Rose having to hold on for long periods after taking the lead twice.

Tommy Coyne opened the scoring after only ten minutes to put the Rose ahead. Star equalised a couple of minutes later with a penalty from Stevie Thomson and Rose took the lead again with a superb 30 yard free kick from Mark Tyrrell on 15 minutes.

Star grabbed hold of the game and for a good long spell put Rose under the cosh. But they couldn't put the ball in the net Linlithgow scored their third with a slice of luck. A shot into the danger area rebounded to substitute Stevie Manson and he finished clinically.

Bonnyrigg and Musselburgh drew 2-2. Calvin Shand put Musselburgh ahead before Sean Polizcka equalised. Sean Grady then put Bonnyrigg in front again but Tom Morgan levelled in the dying minutes.

Holders Camelon beat Bathgate 1-0 thanks to a penalty spot scored by Graeme Guy in an incident with Bathgate's Stewart Hunter, who was sent off against his former team.

The comeback of the day belonged to Bo'ness who were 2-0 down in the second half against Fauldhouse.

Kevin Martin and Mark Martin had put Fauldhouse in front before Bo'ness trialist Brian Carrigan pulled a goal back with Scott Wright equalising. Will Snowdon completed the fightback with a winner in injury time.

Arniston top their section after a 2-1 win at Penicuik - they were a goal down with only a minute played.

Spartans beat West Calder 6-3 to bring their goals tally for two games to ten.

In the same section Armadale demolished Pumpherston 5-0.

Whitburn beat Dalkeith 3-2 thanks to a double from Scott Murphy. Livingston were at Harthill and won 5-1 and Sauchie inflicted a 4-0 win at home to Blackburn.

Haddington won their derby against Dunbar 1-0 while Edinburgh had a super 2-1 win at home to Broxburn.

There are a further six matches being played tonight with Arniston going for a hat-trick of victories.
