Watt wait until second half to break City

Heriot-Watt University 2 Edinburgh City 1

CITY dominated the first half, with Danny Denholm supplying a stream of crosses and cutbacks which his team-mates were unable to convert.

Early in the match, Simon Ferrie prevented a goal by getting first to a Denholm centre to play the ball over the bar, after which numerous shots from Ross Guthrie, Dougie Gair, Stenhouse and Denholm either missed the target or were gathered by John Falconer.

Watt had shown little in attack in the first period but, eight minutes after half-time, they took the lead when a mix-up in the visitors' defence gave Curro Cervera the chance to fire home from the edge of the area.

Following a corner from the City left, Falconer produced a superb save from Peter Stenhouse's header to preserve his side's lead and, with ten minutes left, Watt went two up when, following a partially-cleared corner, Ferrie hooked the ball back into the box for Erik Thomson to flick it past Duncan Monteith.

A fine strike by Stenhouse reduced City's arrears in the last minute.
