Watsonians sign up batting brother of former sevens star

THE brother of a former Scotland Sevens rugby internationalist has signed up as the Watsonians cricket professional for the 2010 season.

Tim Weston, whose brother Jonny used to play scrum-half for the Border Reivers, will add further quality to the 'Sonians batting line-up after the capture of Scotland cap Stuart Chalmers a couple of months ago.

The duo's runs in the SNCL Premier Division should help fill the void left by Andy Delmont's departure. Weston, a 27-year-old batsman, plays his cricket for Central Districts in New Zealand's first-class domestic competition alongside the likes of Kiwi internationalists Ross Taylor and Jacob Oram.

The current New Zealand domestic season draws to a close over the next five weeks with Weston in regular four-day action for Central Districts. The season has already seen him pick up some silverware with his club sealing victory in the HRV T20 Cup Final last month when they saw off an Auckland Aces side featuring England cap Ravi Bopara amongst others.

On the signing, Watsonians president Ross Brooks said: "Timmy and I have been in close contact since late October and I have been extremely impressed by his enthusiasm for the game and the experience he will bring to us.

"I have no doubt Timmy will fit well into our current squad and help us achieve more positive results on the field, however more importantly I believe he will help us continue to move forward as a club during his stay at Myreside."
