Watsonians 15 - 13 Stirling County

Watsonians gained their first Premier One win of the season after a hard fought, if unspectacular, encounter.

The match started scrappily with aimless kicks aplenty, but from the first good move Watsonians won a penalty, stand-off Jamie Forbes kicking the resultant three points.

County levelled things up with a penalty of their own in the 15th minute, but the game did not spark into life and the next 20 minutes were pedestrian at best.

The visitors did show some good attacking intent just before the interval and scored a converted try through replacement back-row Bengy Barsanti who ran a good line to go under the posts. Young Edwards then added another penalty in injury time to leave it 13-3 to County at the break.

Edinburgh pro Simon Webster came on for Sonians at the start of the second half and five minutes in, his break eventually resulted in a score in the corner for captain Alan Nash.

County nearly got their second try of the day in the 55th minute, but Watsonians managed to turn the ball over on their own line before Forbes squandered a simple penalty.

The hosts then did go ahead in the 63rd minute with the move of the match. Nash's midfield break set up back-row Andrew Porter to go over and centre Andrew Skeen converted to make it 15-13.

With eight minutes to go Edwards missed a kickable penalty for County and the Edinburgh side just held on.
