Wasps shrug off injuries

ALLOA sent out a powerful message to the sides chasing them at the top of the Second Division, when they travelled to fourth placed Stirling Albion on Saturday minus a host of players, lost a further three to injury by half-time and still came away with a 3-0 win.

Manager Allan Maitland said: "To come here with a patched up side and then lose more players and win says a lot about the spirit we have."

went ahead right on the stroke of half-time when Gareth Wardlaw's shot deflected off Willie Kinniburgh and past Callum Reidford with substitute John Dempster doubling their advantage midway through the second period when he shot home at the second attempt. Latvian Dmitrijs Borisovs set up an exciting finale with a late goal for the Bully Wee, however it was not enough.

Brechin's seven game unbeaten run came to an end when they were defeated by local neighbours Arbroath 2-0 win at Glebe Park. Steve Hislop headed home inside the first minute and a second from Robbie Ross with little more than half an hour played moved the Gayfield men ten points clear of Clyde at the bottom.

Stenhousemuir made it eight games without defeat and two wins in a row when substitute Paul Quinn struck with a fierce shot late in the game to see off Dumbarton 1-0.

East Fife recorded a fine win defeating Peterhead 3-0 at Bayview with player-manager Steve Crawford netting early with a header, Bobby Linn adding a second on 15 minutes via the underside of the bar and Lloyd Young scoring a late third.
