Warriors aim to be community ‘focal point’

A FRESH attempt has been made in Glasgow to forge stronger links between the professional team and the communities it represents, with 18 clubs from the Glasgow area and beyond teaming up with chief executive Kenny Baillie and chairman Charles Shaw at Glasgow’s match against Newcastle last Friday to discuss ways of forging stronger links.

Baillie said that the session had thrown up a great deal of positive debate and constructive suggestions over how best Glasgow and the clubs can interact to help each other grow. He said: “For the Warriors to fulfil our potential, it’s vital that we make people in the Glasgow area and beyond really feel a part of the club and what we’re all about.

“We want to be the focal point of rugby in the west of Scotland, and represent everyone who comes under that banner with passion and pride on what are some of the biggest stages in the European game. The clubs are clearly a major part of that process, and the purpose of Friday’s meet was to hear first-hand what they want from the Warriors and how they feel the ties can be made more meaningful.”
