They finished behind gold-medal winner Patricia Bezzoubenko, of Canada, in the individual all-around final, which comprises routines with the ball, hoop, ribbon and clubs.

It has been quite a week for Jones, who carried her country’s flag at the opening ceremony on Wednesday. The 23-year-old also won silver at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi four years ago.

Also in the all-around final was Lauren Brash, one of Team Scotland’s youngest members. Although she finished last of the 16 qualifiers, the 15-year-old from Livingston exceeded all expectation by reaching that stage. She was hugely popular with crowds at the Hydro, where ‘Donald Where’s Yer Troosers’ was one of her musical selections.

Her attentions now turn to turn to the next Games, which will be held in Queensland, Australia. If she continues at her current rate, she will be among the contenders to win a medal.
