Volleyball: Troon trounced as City of Edinburgh keep pressure on

SCOTTISH men's volleyball champions City of Edinburgh brushed aside Troon PA with ease to keep up their challenge at the top of the Schelde Sports Scottish League.

Player-coach Barry McGuigan switched from libero to hitting duties and let Mike Penny take up the libero role.

But the Ayrshire side had no answers as Edinburgh swept to a straight sets win 25-13, 25-14, 25-17.

The Capital side could even afford the luxury of leaving hitter Graham Riddle on the bench in the second set but he came on for the final set to put the match to bed.

It remains tight at the top with Glasgow Mets - 25-23, 25-13, 25-12 over Bon Accord - and Kilmarnock Blaze - 25-16, 25-22, 25-17 over Dundee - both winning.

In the women's first division, City of Edinburgh had their most convincing win so far as they overwhelmed South Ayrshire 25-6, 25-8, 25-8. It served as a warning to Troon PA, the only other undefeated team in the division.

The Ayrshire side, expected to be Edinburgh's closest rivals this season, defeated Edinburgh Jets II 25-19, 25-17, 25-1.
