Volleyball: Troon coach turns up heat as title showdown looms

Troon PA coach Vince Krawczyk has turned up the heat ahead of tomorrow's women's Scottish Volleyball League title decider with City of Edinburgh at Queensferry High School (10.30am).

Krawczyk says his team have the psychological edge ahead of the match after last weekend's events in the best-of-three title showdown. Edinburgh won the home leg 3-0 but Troon bounced back to win the return in Ayr on Sunday 3-1 to force tomorrow's deciding tie.

"We were so bad on Saturday that Edinburgh would have been expecting to turn up on the Sunday and celebrate winning the title," said Krawczyk.

"To have it taken away from your fingertips is not great psychologically whereas it was a big psychological boost for us. But I still think it is very much in the balance and two points either way could change the outcome. Any two points in a game can consolidate the good work you've done or destroy it, that's the beauty of sport.

"You can be 2-0 up in sets and 15-11 in the third and still lose it and psychology is such a big part of sport. You just need to look at what happened to Rory McIlroy at the Masters."

Krawczyk is leaving nothing to chance and, because of the early start, has booked his players into a local hotel tonight.

"It is only the second time we have done this as a club - the last time is when we won the league in Aberdeen in 2000," he said. "It avoids an hour-and-a-half drive on Saturday morning which would not have helped our chances. We are preparing as professionally as an amateur team can."
