Volleyball: Riddle helps City push on

Graham RIDDLE made his comeback after an horrific finger injury to ensure City of Edinburgh held onto their unbeaten record in the men’s Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League.

Riddle, who suffered the injury at the same venue in November, returned to kill off reigning champions Glasgow Mets in four sets 25-19, 25-23, 24-26, 25-22.

It could even have been more emphatic as Edinburgh held a six-point lead in the third set but let it slip away from them.

Mets were expected to put up more resistance on their own patch after taking Edinburgh to 19-17 in the fifth set in the John Syer Trophy back in November.

Elsewhere at the weekend, Edinburgh Jets took a giant side towards beating the drop with an 18-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-22 win over Troon PA. The win suggests Jets can avoid the bottom two places.

In the women’s first division, Edinburgh Jets lost to unbeaten league leaders Troon PA 17-25, 15-25, 25-17, 21-25 while City of Edinburgh beat NUVOC 25-12, 25-20, 25-13.
