Volleyball: Portuguese move will help Glissov's chances of GB call

PAUL GLISSOV has put himself back in the frame for Great Britain volleyball selection after moving from Spain's La Liga to Portugal.

The former Edinburgh Jets player was part of a British contingent at Tenerife Sur including fellow Scot Andy Benson.

But he was struggling to get court time and moved to play for in the Portuguese side Leixoes.

The 25-year-old has made a big impact and has played his way into the thoughts of GB coach Harry Brokking, who will name his squad in April for the forthcoming European Championships and European League campaigns.

"Paul wasn't getting a game at Tenerife mainly because their star Brazilian player played in the same position," explained Kenny Barton, performance programme manager of British Volleyball.

"But he has been playing well in Portugal and it may work out to be a really good move for him."

The GB programme gets into full swing in May and, with the Olympics just over two years away, it is a critical year.

Scottish fans are likely to get the chance to see the GB team again following last year's successful European League matches at Meadowbank. It is understood at least two Scottish cities are in the frame to host matches in the months ahead.
