Volleyball: Jets jumped by Kyle in five-set epic

Edinburgh JETS II lost their grip on the top of the women’s second division of the Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League when they slipped to a five-set defeat to title rivals
Kyle Team Ayrshire.

In a match that could have gone either way, Jets II took the first set but eventually lost out 26-24, 24-26, 21-25, 28-26, 15-11 at St Augustine’s High School.

There were hopes after Jets won a tense fourth set that they could go on and complete the job, but it was Kyle who won through to go to the top of the table.

Kyle are now favourites for the title, holding a two-point lead with only two matches left.

Jets II do not have much time to lick their wounds as they host North Lanarkshire this Saturday in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.

There were no top division matches at the weekend, but NUVOC got the better of Edinburgh Jets III in the men’s Division 2 (East), winning 25-23, 25-17, 25-22.
