Volleyball: Jets can't afford to cruise against North Lanarkshire

High-flying Edinburgh Jets are likely to be fully extended against North Lanarkshire tomorrow as they bid to stamp their mark on the women's John Syer Volleyball Trophy.

Jets won their first group match in straight sets against South Ayrshire but expect a tougher match this time out in Newarthill.

Last month, the teams traded blow for blow in the Schelde Sports Scottish League before Jets left Lanarkshire with a 3-2 win, going to 15-12 in the final set.

The Edinburgh side have made a decent start to the league season, winning three of their four matches, but all of those victories came from five-setters. City of Edinburgh, who lost to Su Ragazzi in the first round of the John Syer Trophy, should have it a bit easier tomorrow when they face Glasgow International, who have yet to win a set in the league.

In the men's competition, Edinburgh Jets face a difficult trip to Ayrshire to face Kilmarnock Blaze, who need a victory after losing their opening match to Glasgow Mets.

Jets' outside hitters Marcin Krakowski and Tomas Zavrel have proved difficult to stop this season and the Edinburgh side will rely heavily on those two to keep the upper hand.

Holders City of Edinburgh, currently second in the league, aim to continue their improved form against Bon Accord.
