Volleyball: Jets blast aside Troon to ease relegation worries

THE Edinburgh Jets volleyball team eased their relegation fears by handing Troon PA another defeat in the men's first division of the Schelde Sports Scottish League.

Jets recovered after losing the third set at St Augustine's High to register an important 25-21, 25-22, 21-25, 25-14 win.

The result effectively means Jets can spend the next few weeks looking above them rather than over their shoulders. Troon and Dundee have still to register a win and Jets are now in a strong position to beat the drop or even shoot for the play-offs.

On a day when Glasgow Mets blew the title race wide open with a 25-19, 25-23, 25-18 win over champions City of Edinburgh, it promises to be the most competitive division for years. It was Edinburgh's third loss of the season and leaves them now in fourth in the table as the chase for play-off spots hots up. The Capital side are now seven points behind leaders Kilmarnock Blaze, albeit with a match in hand.

In the women's first division, Edinburgh Jets stunned unbeaten leaders Troon PA by taking the first set.

It was only the fourth set Troon have lost all season in the league but they came back to win 25-27, 25-21, 25-18, 25-22. City of Edinburgh beat Glasgow International 25-8, 25-16, 25-9.
