Volleyball: Coach Moody praised after Edinburgh seal League title

Former England captain Mel Coutts today paid tribute to coach Nick Moody as City of Edinburgh retained the Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League title.

The Capital side edged Troon PA 21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-16 in Saturday's winner-take-all match in South Queensferry to win the play-off final 2-1.

The Ayrshire side felt they had the advantage going into the tie having come back from the dead to force a third and decisive match by beating Edinburgh the previous Sunday.

"You start to feel the momentum has maybe swung in their favour after that and it was even tougher for us when they took the first set on Saturday," Coutts pointed out. "But the girls were really pleased to come through and win. It was down to the tactics by our coach Nick Moody who matched us up well."

Troon had even booked into a nearby hotel overnight on Friday to make sure they were fresh for the 10.30am start.

It looked to have worked as they took the opening set but Edinburgh powered back.

The team now qualifies for the inaugural Celtic Cup against Northern Ireland's champions at the end of next month.

In the men's 3rd-4th play-off, City of Edinburgh lost at home to City of Glasgow Ragazzi 27-25, 21-25, 16-25, 17-25.

It leaves Edinburgh with plenty to mull over before next month's Scottish Cup final clash with Ragazzi in Wishaw.
