Volleyball: City women lift Thistle

CITY OF EDINBURGH may have missed out on the women's Scottish Volleyball Cup but they added a third piece of silverware to their season at Wishaw Sports Centre.

The Scottish champions easily overcame South Ayrshire 25-9, 25-10, 25-10 in the final of the Thistle Bowl.

The major honours of cup final weekend went west – Su Ragazzi winning the men's Scottish Cup and Troon PA the women's cup – but there was some success for Capital teams to toast. Edinburgh Jets won an all-Capital men's Thistle Bowl by beating City of Edinburgh II 23-25, 25-12, 25-16, 26-24.

But there was disappointment for Grassmarket Jets who led Su Ragazzi II by two sets in the men's Plate final only to go down 25-22, 25-21, 10-25, 18-25, 7-15.

The highlight of the weekend was an enthralling men's cup final between Su Ragazzi and Glasgow Mets which was fiercely contested. Mets fought tooth and nail for every ball but Ragazzi won through 29-27, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22 to retain the trophy.
