Volleyball: City shake things up but still have too much firepower for the Jets

CITY OF EDINBURGH shuffled their pack but still came up trumps against Edinburgh Jets in the men's Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League.

The league leaders moved Simon Hammond to the libero role and player-coach Barry McGuigan took up hitting responsibilities.

At times, City over complicated their offence but they possessed too many weapons for Jets.

With Graham Riddle in fine hitting form, City proved too strong for their rivals, winning in straight sets 25-16, 25-20, 25-17.

McGuigan completed the job by serving two aces on the final two points as City maintained their unbeaten record and closed in on the play-offs.

It has been the perfect season for Edinburgh so far and they can book their place in the last four of the Scottish Cup this weekend when they face Team Fife.

Team Fife found the going tough at former champions Kilmarnock at the weekend, going down 15-25, 19-25, 16-25 and the Ayrshire side look capable of mounting a late push for the title.

In the women's first division, Troon PA continue to lead the way after their 25-14, 25-12, 25-18 dismissal of Glasgow Mets. But there is a strong Capital challenge. Edinburgh Jets were similarly convincing as they dismantled North Lanarkshire 25-15, 25-23, 25-20.

City of Edinburgh also kept themselves in the mix by beating Su Ragazzi in straight sets 25-20, 25-17, 25-14 in a match they won with increasing ease.
