Volleyball: City must find right mix and fast

Scottish men's volleyball champions City of Edinburgh seek to get back on the rails when they face Glasgow Ragazzi in the John Syer Trophy tomorrow.

Having lost just once in 25 matches last season, Edinburgh slipped up in a tight five-set match with Glasgow Mets last weekend, in only their second league match of the season.

"It's just a case of getting a new team to gel," stated new signing Robin Miedzybrodzki, back for his second spell at the club.

"But it is still very early in the season and we're looking forward to playing Ragazzi as they are always good matches.

"The early results in the division suggest the title race could be wide open this season."

Edinburgh won the tournament last year and will be looking to hand Ragazzi their first defeat.

Edinburgh Jets start as favourites in their tie against Troon PA at St Augustine's High tomorrow.

In the women's John Syer Trophy, City of Edinburgh - the only team in both the men's and women's top flights still to lose a set - travel to face Su Ragazzi.

Troon PA, the only other unbeaten side, host North Lanarkshire and Edinburgh Jets host South Ayrshire.
