Volleyball: City battle to cool Jets

City of Edinburgh made a winning start to their new Schelde Sports Scottish
Volleyball League campaign, but had to work hard to overhaul
Capital rivals Edinburgh Jets.

City have a smaller squad this term and face some of their biggest rivals in the next few weeks, so player-coach Barry McGuigan was delighted with the result. With former Great Britain player Paul Glissov showing his hitting power, Jets took the first set 25-22 as Edinburgh struggled on passing and block-defence. But, after making adjustments, the Scottish Cup holders won through 22-25,
25-22, 25-19, 27-25.

In the women’s first division, Edinburgh opened the defence
of their title with a 25-13,
25-18, 14-25, 25-21 victory over Edinburgh Jets.
