Volleyball: City aiming for play-offs

CITY OF EDINBURGH put themselves back on track for the Schelde Scottish Volleyball League play-offs after outlasting City of Glasgow Ragazzi over five sets.

The reigning champions came through 25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 17-25, 15-8. Player-coach Barry McGuigan praised his players who have bounced back after three successive defeats to put their season back on track with back-to-back wins.

City won a rearranged match against Edinburgh Jets 25-12, 26-24, 25-18 last week to set them up nicely for Saturday's clash with Ragazzi.

McGuigan said: "It gave us a little breathing space and the win against Su Ragazzi helps a great deal to securing the playoff slot."

In the women's first division, Troon PA beat North Lanarkshire 25-17, 25-14, 25-21, while Edinburgh's NUVOC secured their place in the last eight of the women's Scottish Cup with a 24-26, 25-20, 25-11, 15-25, 15-6 win at home to Lenzie.
