Volleyball: Capital pair get a beach of a boost after Olympics nod

Edinburgh beach volleyball players Shauna Mullin and Robin Miedzybrodski were today celebrating after the British Olympic Association announced GB teams can take up host nation qualifying places at London 2012.

The BOA had previously approved places of the GB men's and women's indoor teams but had delayed a decision on the beach version of the sport.

Now, there will be one qualifying place for the hosts in both the men's and women's competitions. For Mullin, who plays with England's Zara Dampney, there was a huge sense of relief.

"We are delighted that a GB women's team is now guaranteed the opportunity to utilise a host nation place," she said, adding: "We have worked so hard for so long to represent our country."

Miedzybrodski is also hoping to play in the event but has been forced to take up full-time employment after the funding was withdrawn for the GB men's beach team last year.
