Vikki Laing achieves highest finish of season at German Open

Scotland's Vikki Laing had her best result of the season after a final-round 70 earned a share of 23rd place at the UniCredit Ladies' German Open at Golfpark Gut Hausmen yesterday.

Italy's Diana Luna, who formed a successful fourball partnership with Scotland's Catriona Matthew when making her Solheim Cup debut two years ago, claimed her third Ladies' European Tour title in style with back-to-back 65s.

In fact, the 28-year-old, who opened with two rounds of 67, completed the 72 holes without making a solitary bogey and she took the title by a runaway seven shots on 24 under par. It was her first victory since the birth of her daughter, Elena, last year. Luna said: "I am so happy, I have been playing great all week. I'm happy that I won with a good score and I'm very, very confident and feeling great.

"It was special, something that hasn't happened since 2009. It's been two years now and it's so nice to be back there."

Finland's Minea Blomqvist finished second on 17 under after she birdied the 18th for a closing 70, while Wales' 36-year-old Becky Morgan, the first-day leader, was in third place on 16 under after a 69.

Laing, the Musselburgh 30-year-old, has had a sluggish start to the season, but she carded four birdies to finish on seven under par. Lynn Kenny was the only other Scot to make the cut and the Archerfield professional had a disappointing 76 in the third round, but bounced back with a last-day 66 for a three-under-par total.
