Video: call for Judo to remain in Games

SCOTLAND’S Judo Team Manager Graeme Randall has urged the Scottish Government, sportscotland and the Scottish public to respond to the success of the sport in the Commonwealth Games by pushing for its return.

The Scottish judo players won 13 medals in the first three days of the competition to drive Team Scotland on the way to its target of a record 34-medal haul, but judo will not feature at the next Commonwealth Games.

It returned after a 12-year hiatus, Randall having won gold in Manchester in 2002 when the sport was last on the roster. However, Australia will host the Games on the Gold Coast in 2018 and judo was not part of its bid.

Randall will now focus on pushing the burgeoning Scottish talent into contention with GB for the Olympics in Rio in 2016 and Tokyo 2020, as well as world championships, but as the sport continues to lobby Commonwealth nations for its return in an exclusive interview with scotsman.com Randall urges Scots to use their voice.
