Vaz Te open to extending stay at Hibs

Ricardo VAZ TE, one of 11 Hibs players out of contract at the end of the season, would be open to a contract extension at Easter Road if the club wishes to keep him.

The Portuguese striker admits he harbours long-term ambitions of a return to England but would like to repay Hibs for lending him an opportunity to progress his career.

Vaz Te arrived in Edinburgh following an acrimonious end to his stint in Greek football with Panionios and is tied to Colin Calderwood's side until the end of this campaign.

"I know exactly where I want to be - that's why I'm working hard for it," said the 24-year-old striker. "Right now, my head is right here (at Hibs]. I just need to work harder and get better. I'm not trying to impress anyone, I'm trying to improve and learn."

The scorer of Hibs' second goal against Hearts in the recent Edinburgh derby says that, with no contract on the table yet, he is unable to commit to staying or leaving the club.

"Hibs have been great to me and I'm always grateful," says Vaz Te. "For now, I just want to give them back a little bit. If in the end they offer me an extension, I would sit down like I would do with any contract or proposal. You sit down and analyse it and at the end you decide what's best for you and, obviously, for the club.

"If it comes to that, that's what I'm going to do - at the right time. I'm not going to say, if they offer me a contract, I'm going to sign, or I'm not going to sign. There are so many factors."

Meanwhile, Hibs are pondering an appeal to the SFA over a six-match dugout ban handed to assistant manager Derek Adams for using foul and abusive language in the 2-0 defeat at Motherwell on January 22.
