Vale fight back to deny Tynecastle

Tynecastle and Vale of Leithen drew 1-1 in an entertaining Central Taxis Premier Division game at Fernieside as both clubs virtually ensured they are safe from relegation.

Paul Devlin headed Tynecastle into a third-minute lead. But completely against the run of play, Vale's Scott Moffat pinched the ball off Ross McMullen and rounded the Tynecastle keeper to slot into an empty net after half an hour. The second half belonged to Vale but, despite having a host of chances, the visitors could not find a winner.

Tynecastle coach David Bingham said: "That was probably a fair result because we certainly lived dangerously in the second half. We did not look like conceding and their equaliser certainly changed the game but we are not unhappy with a point."

Vale boss Robbie Horn said: "We were not in the game for the first 20 or 25 minutes but the equaliser allowed us into it. After that we were the much better team."
