Upbeat Jon Daly insists Dundee United will recover

DUNDEE United striker Jon Daly is confident they can bounce back quickly from their heavy defeat at Celtic Park as the Tayside men look for their first Clydesdale Bank Premier League win at Tannadice this season.

United suffered a 5-1 reverse at Parkhead last week but created a number of chances and Daly was not downbeat over the scoreline.

"When you go to Celtic Park and Ibrox you know you are going to get punished if you make mistakes and that's what happened," Daly said. "We have not defended properly for the first two goals and gifted them those goals. We were pushing forward and they hit us on the break a couple of times.

"We will take it on the chin and move on and try and get three points on Saturday.

"We would like to have more points on the board but the performances we have been putting in have been quite good. If we can keep that level of performance up, I think we will get more points than we drop."

Irn-Bru First Division champions Dunfermline have recovered from a difficult first 45 minutes of the season against St Mirren to record an unbeaten start to the campaign.

The Pars followed draws against St Mirren and Inverness with a win at St Johnstone last weekend.

Daly said: "We know they are going to be a good side because the First Division is a tough division to get out of. They have started well and are unbeaten so it's going to be tough." Dunfermline midfielder Paul Burns admits he is relishing the prospect of weekly encounters with top-flight opposition having spent 11 years with Queen of the South before he moved to East End Park this summer.

Burns enjoyed several cup battles against Premier League clubs during his time with the First Division side and played in the 2008 Scottish Cup final against Rangers at Hampden but is now fulfilling his ambition of playing in the SPL.

He said: "I didn't think it was out of my reach but you maybe think that your chance has gone. But you have to get your head down and work hard and the chance came for me and I am thoroughly enjoying it now.

"I had obviously played against SPL teams in the cup before but it is my first time in the SPL, and it is something I look forward to. It is where you want to be playing every week. We are playing good teams every week and so you have to be up for it."
