University to face Spartans in final

The students of Edinburgh University progressed to the final of the East of Scotland League Cup, where they will meet Spartans, after they defeated Civil Service Strollers 3-0 away from home in the semi-final.

The Strollers, with the wind behind them, controlled the early part of the game and hit the woodwork twice, but it was the students - against the run of play - who opened the scoring when Colin Cameron ran through to curl the ball behind Alan Dillon in the Strollers goal.

Two late goals from Cameron and substitute Mike Gray saw the visiting side confirm their place in the final. "I am delighted for this group of young players," said the Edinburgh University head coach Dougie Samuel.

Spartans, who are now in line for an unprecedented haul of all five East of Scotland League domestic trophies, found it tough going against Preston Athletic and it took a goal from Chris Smith with five minutes remaining to seal a 1-0 win and a place in the final.
