United survive cup thriller with Girvan

Edinburgh United progressed to the third round of the Junior Cup following a ten-goal thriller at a soaked Paties Road.

Girvan took the lead through Michael Moffat in the 17th minute but Brett Dalgleish equalised from a tight angle in the 23rd minute to level.

United then went ahead in the 30th minute with a wonderful Adam Barbirou strike from the edge of the box, however Girvan responded just 60 seconds later when Moffat fired home his second from six yards out. Scott Montgomery put United back in front with a looping header in the 38th minute before Lumbert Kateleza increased the lead on 42 minutes.

Kateleza made it 5-2 with a delightful lob over the Girvan keeper just five minutes into the second half. Girvan started to press forward and Moffat reduced the deficit and completed his hat-trick with a cool finish in the 72nd minute then Kenneth Fisher scored a wonderful breakaway goal in the 81st minute. Craig Harvey scored a tap-in for Girvan in the 85th minute but United held out for an impressive victory.
