Uni football to feast on

The race for this season's inter-Scottish Universities Queen's Park Shield will not be decided tomorrow although there is a veritable feast of football scheduled for the Edinburgh University Playing Fields at Peffermill.

Edinburgh University 1st XI and Heriot-Watt University are locked together at the top of the five-team table, both having accumulated 12 points from their six games while Glasgow University have 11 points from their seven games. Any one of these three teams are still in with a chance of lifting the Queen's Park Shield.

Tomorrow, Edinburgh University 1st XI host Glasgow University while Edinburgh University 2nds await Heriot-Watt. Both games kick off at 2pm.

"It looks like the competition will go right to the wire meaning that our last game, away to Heriot Watt, could decide the winners of this season's Queen's Park Shield," said Edinburgh University 1st X1 coach Douglas Samuel.

Michael Renwick, the coach of Edinburgh University watched his side draw with Edinburgh University 1st X1 on Saturday in the Central Taxis Premier Division and said afterwards: "I can have no complaints with a point. In the first half Edinburgh created a lot of chances although I felt that we dominated the second half and got our just rewards.

"Tomorrow's game against the Edinburgh University 2nd X1 gives us the opportunity to build up confidence although we know it will not be an easy game. They are well organised and I have been impressed with a few of their players."

Both games kick off at Peffermill at 2.00pm.
