Under-18 Bowl: Boroughmuir/James Gillespies HS 36 - 14 Queen Victoria School

Jordan Edmunds the Bowl hero for capital combination

Boroughmuir and James Gillespies High Schools composite side emerged as winners of the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Schools under-18 Bowl last night after achieving a stylish win over Queen Victoria School on Murrayfield’s 4G pitch.

In all, the city combine ran in five tries, two by their outstanding full back Jordan Edmunds who collected the man-of-the-match award at the end of game in which scored 19 of his side’s points. “I’m delighted for this group of players” said winning coach, Ian Thom, who took the Boroughmuir contingent of the side on tour to Canada last June.

“I think that tour really paid off. What pleases me too is that most of this team will be back next season” added Thom, who started working with this team when they were in S1. “We were well in control in the first half but tired a bit just after the break. Fortunately though we finished strongly and produced some excellent late tries.”

The composite side, only three of whom are from James Gillespie’s High School, looked to have the game won by half time when they led 17-0 with tries from centre Grant Burberry and full-back Edmunds and a penalty from Edmunds.

But Dunblane’s Queen Victoria School, who had shown skill and determination earlier in the game, found their rhythm at the start of the second half to score tries through their pacy winger Calum Marshall and stand-off Corin Domanski, both converted by full back Suja Lama.

But thereafter it was the capital side who were in control and they finished strongly with tries from Burberry, Edmunds, and stand-off Blair Wycherley, added to by further conversions from Edmunds (2) and prop Connor McCormack to seal a fine win.
