Ulster aiming to bounce back against Glasgow

THE Ulster rugby squad were one of the many thousands affected by yesterday's airport closures but a swift change of transport mode from plane to ferry ensured they arrived in Glasgow as scheduled for tonight's Magners League clash at Firhill.

Glasgow are desperate to win to re-ignite their push for the play-offs in the first of three vital home matches this month. Third bottom Ulster arrived on the back of a 38-27 defeat to Ospreys at Ravenhill earlier in the week but have a good recent record at Firhill.

Ulster coach Brian McLaughlin said: "We travelled to Glasgow by boat and had our captain's run at lunchtime. We had a good review of Tuesday's game against the Ospreys and we've got to look at our defence, we're still suffering from inconsistency around our defence.

"Glasgow are another quality side and we're expecting a very tough game, it's been a quick turnaround for us, physically we're in good shape so now we just have to get the boys mentally right for this very important game."

Scotland wing Simon Danielli, who was a tryscorer in the Ospreys defeat, lines up at full-back against many of his international team-mates.

Ulster have no chance of making the play-offs but are looking over their shoulders at an improving Connacht side, who are four points behind with a game in hand and are threatening to take Ireland's third Heineken Cup spot, so won't lack motivation tonight.

Glasgow coach Sean Lineen is under no illusions about the importance of victory in tonight's match and is hoping for a big and vocal home support. "It is a massive game. We know if we don't win we're out and the players know that. The players want it you can see that but there's words and there's action and we need to get the action right.

"There's a real opportunity here and it's one we just don't want to give up."
