Two Scots set to take on Americans in PGA Cup in Ireland
GB&I captain David Scott feeling upbeat about team’s chances in The K Club clash in October
Two Scots - Gavin Hay and Graeme Robertson - have made David Scott’s Great Britain & Ireland team for the 32nd PGA Cup at The K Club in Ireland later this year.
Hay, who is attached to East Renfrewshire Golf Club, secured his spot in the ten-man side as one of five automatic qualifiers based on performances in the last two stagings of the PGA Professional Championship.

The Grantown-on-Spey man finished second in this year’s edition at Slaley Hall in Northumberland, ending up just in front of Robertson.
Helped by that effort, Robertson, who is attached to Glenbervie, secured one of Scott’s three captain’s picks, with the others going to Welshman Gareth Davies and Irishman Simon Thornton.
Ashley Mansell, who won the PGA Professional Championship this year, secured an automatic spot, as did Harry Casey, Toby Hunt and Ben Amor, while the final two berths went to James Freeman and Matthew Ford through the PGA Open Series.
“Selecting a PGA Cup team is never a straightforward task given the depth of talent we have within The PGA,” said Scott, the general manager at Dumbarnie Links, “but I believe the team we’ve assembled combines proven winners with players who have demonstrated their quality consistently over the last two years.
“Representing GB&I in the PGA Cup is a tremendous honour and I know every player will represent the Association with pride. Our American counterparts always offer a challenge, we know that, but we have a group that is more than capable of lifting the trophy.”

The event takes place at the County Kildare venue on 2-4 October, when GB&I will be bidding to end a run of three straight defeats to the Americans.
GB&I team: Ashley Mansell (Clevedon GC), Harry Casey (The Shire London), Toby Hunt (Whitchurch GC), Ben Amor (Ogbourne Downs GC), Gavin Hay (East Renfrewshire GC), James Freeman (Rotherham GC), Matthew Ford (GolfGearDirect), Graeme Robertson (Glenbervie GC), Gareth Davies (Abbeydale GC), Simon Thornton (STGolf).
