Trapattoni leaves Dublin hospital

Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni was yesterday discharged from hospital after being taken ill in the run-up to last week's friendly clash with Argentina.

The 71-year-old Italian underwent minor surgery at Dublin's Mater Hospital last Wednesday, on the morning of the international at the new Aviva Stadium, after complaining of abdominal pain.

He remained in hospital until yesterday morning, but has now been discharged.

A statement released by the Football Association of Ireland said: "The Football Association of Ireland today confirmed that Republic of Ireland manager, Giovanni Trapattoni, was discharged from the Mater hospital this morning.

"Giovanni Trapattoni would like to express his sincere thanks to the staff of the Mater hospital for their excellent care."

Trapattoni missed the Argentina game after his surgeon decided to operate when investigations revealed his discomfort was being caused by minor scar tissue from a previous procedure.

His assistant, Marco Tardelli, will announce the Republic squad for next month's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Armenia and Andorra on Friday.
