Tough shift steels Young

Capital cyclist Finlay Young will learn from a tough introduction to Belgian stage racing as he prepares to return to one day competition over the coming days.

Young, who is spending his summer break from Heriot Watt University riding for the Asfra team, was selected for the Tour of the Province of Liege with a series of solid results. However, after a steady effort in the first of the race’s five stages, he found the going tough on the second day and featured in a long list of riders who abandoned during a stage that featured the infamous Mur de Huy climb. Young said: “I was blown to bits in the cross winds. I put up a good fight though. I must have spent at least an hour on my own trying to stay in the race.”

Meanwhile, City of Edinburgh rider Kayleigh Brogan has signed for the Dutch professional outfit Team Ibis.
