Top honours for McDonald as Stirling run continues

STIRLING students are on a roll in the opening few weeks of the domestic season, with Jack McDonald the latest player under Dean Robertson’s wing at the Central Scotland campus to claim a prestigious title.

The 2009 Scottish Boys’ Stroke-Play champion from Ayrshire is the new British Universities champion after claiming the title at West Lancs, where he led home a Stirling clean sweep of the leading positions.

“An awesome performance and well deserved,” said Robertson of McDonald’s success, which came hot on the heels of another Stirling player, Graeme Robertson, winning the Craigmillar Park Open at the weekend.

It also followed Stirling winning all the titles up for grabs in last month’s Scottish Universities Championships at Lossiemouth then David Booth and Kelsey MacDonald doing the double in last week’s R&A Foundation Scholars’ event at St Andrews.

Chasing McDonald home in Lancashire were team-mates Darren Timms (2nd), Zander Culverwell (3rd), Dewi Merckx (4th) and Kit Holmes (5th).
