Top heavy battles dominate weekend

BOWLS: Challenging head-to-heads will be the order of the day for the top two teams in three of the four sections of the Scottish Cities & Counties championship in today's fourth round of matches.

Defending champions West Lothian lead the East Section by 36 shots from Midlothian, with both teams clashing today at Broxburn.

In the South Section, leaders Dumfries confront second placed Wigtownshire who trail by two points but have 66 more shots than their Dumfriesshire rivals. They meet at Thornhill.

Unbeaten Renfrewshire West dominate the West Section and even if they lose at Auchinleck today against second-placed Ayrshire they would retain pole position on shots.

Up North, top side Dundee clash with third-placed Northern Counties at Fairfield.
