Mappin Time can cut loose in the Daily Price Boosts At Unibet Handicap at Southwell.

Tim Easterby’s sprinter looked in good nick over this course and distance on his last outing in December and has the speed to go one place better in what looks a fair old race.

The gelded son of Orientate was a touch disappointing at Chelmsford in November, but he redressed the balance somewhat a month later at Southwell.

Mappin Time was admittedly well beaten by 9-2 favourite Meadway, but his cause was not helped when he was trapped for room two furlongs from home and had to be switched wide. Once daylight did appear, jockey Rachel Richardson got a lovely tune out of her partner as they charged earnestly towards the finishing line, eventually going down by two lengths – with the reopposing Dungannon a neck away in third.

With only eight runners in this five-furlong affair, the chances of trouble are significantly reduced for a horse who loves the all-weather and runs off the same mark of 92. Dungannon, in contrast, is 6lb higher after having won at Southwell on New Year’s Day. His trainer Andrew Balding can have better fortune earlier in the day when Berkshire Beauty runs in the Ladbrokes Handicap. The four-year-old filly turned in a sound effort at the Nottinghamshire circuit on December 22 when he got to within a length and a half of Thello in a one-mile handicap, with the rest of the field never nearer. And with Thello having since doubled up at Chelmsford, the form obviously has a nice feel to it.

Berkshire Beauty is in receipt of weight from all but one of her Southwell rivals and is only 2lb higher in the weights as she looks to end an unwanted sequence of winless results.

Cultram Abbey makes considerable appeal in the Racing UK Day Pass Just £10.00 Handicap Chase at Wetherby.

Greystoke handler Nicky Richards has made a bright start to the year and can be trusted to enhance the numbers at the Yorkshire circuit.

One blip at this track aside, Cultram Abbey has done quite nicely since he went chasing and went down as one to follow at Ayr on January 2.

Sent off at odds of 4-1 in a six-runner handicap chase over three miles, the nine-year-old was far from assured over a few fences, but he recovered gamely and only went down by half a length to Presented

Though Cultram Abbey has the aptitude for that sort of trip, he is not a slow horse and should have no issues dropping back to two and a half miles on the same mark off which he competed at Ayr.

Helamis is short-listed in the Brook Conditional Jockeys’ Mares’ Handicap Hurdle at Leicester.

Barry Leavy’s six-year-old was a runaway winner at Chepstow in November, yet showed she still has a little room to manoeuvre on her most recent visit to the racecourse at Bangor in December.

Helamis only finished fourth behind Hollywood All Star in a two-mile handicap for conditional riders, but she was caught a little flat-footed that day before she found a second wind once the cause was lost.

A proven operator when the mud is flying, she could be the solution in a race which lacks strength in depth.

The Organist will be the focus of much attention in the British Stallion Studs EBF Mares’ “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle.

The Oliver Sherwood-trained five-year-old has won all three of her starts to date, being most impressive in her two outings over timber.

Testing ground holds no fears and this will give connections a better idea of where they stand, with the new mares’ race at the Cheltenham Festival very much a possibility for March.
