Tim Easterby's Mariachi Man in the groove

Tim Easterby's Mariachi Man created a very favourable impression when winning at Ripon and can follow up in the Arena Structures Nursery, the opening race of the St Leger Festival at Doncaster.

Eighth in a hot maiden at York in May, Easterby gave him plenty of time to strengthen up over the summer and he did not reappear until August.

Racing on what looked to be the unfavoured far side of the track with only one other for company, he absolutely hosed up, beating 10 rivals by upwards of three and a half lengths. The second has since come out and won and after the race Easterby could not hide his enthusiasm for the son of Haafhd, whose mark of 82 seems very sporting.

Wigmore Hall is a confident selection in the Wilson Field Neurocare Conditions Stakes. Michael Bell's three-year-old landed the John Smith's Cup earlier in the season but proved he was better than a handicapper when finishing second in the Secretariat Stakes over in America.

Godolphin's Al Zir looks a threat on paper but he has been absent since the Derby and will need the run.

Tax Free looks to be running into optimum form at the right time and is napped in the feature event, the Listed Scarborough Stakes.

Everything went wrong for Dubawi Gold in the Gimcrack at York but he can bounce back in the AJ Webb & Son Fresh Produce Suppliers Conditions Stakes. Nicely supported in the market beforehand, he fell out of the stalls, losing virtually all chance, and Kieren Fallon let him come home in his own time. A glance at the market will be essential, but he has some fair efforts in the book from his three previous runs, including a Listed second at Epsom.

The Fudge And Smudge Leger Legends Classified Stakes sees a host of great names from the past back in the saddle. Obviously this is not a race to go overboard on, but Dark Moment merits a small interest. He will not mind soft ground and will have the assistance of George Duffield in the saddle.

At Epsom, the in-form Sir Mark Prescott and Seb Sanders can strike in the Nightingall Nursery with Krypton Factor, while the hat-trick-seeking Lyric Poet might conceivably still be ahead of the assessor in the J20 White Blend Summer Series Handicap at Kempton.

Jumping fans get in on the action at Uttoxeter, where Ripalong Lad can take the Staffordshire Wedding Show Handicap Hurdle for the Peter Bowen team.
