Third Division: Forfar win helps idle Livingston

LIVINGSTON'S march to the Third Division title was held up temporarily last night when the returning wintry weather forced their game at Berwick Rangers to be called off.

Gary Bollan's side now know, however, that they need to pick up five points from their remaining eight games to lift the championship after second-placed East Stirling went down 4-1 at Forfar.

The Lions can be crowned champions with a win at Annan on Saturday and a home triumph against Montrose next Tuesday evening.

At a cold and windy Station Park, Barry Sellars grabbed a second half hat-trick to help move Dick Campbell's promotion chasing side to within one point of their visitors with a game in hand.

The Shire's Jamie Stevenson opened the scoring in 20 minutes after he was picked out with a pass from Derek Ure with the striker finding the net from 18 yards out with a low shot. Forfar drew level just two minutes into the second half when Barry Sellars fired home from outside the box and Sellars netted again from distance in 66 minutes to turn the match the way of the Angus men.

Ian Harty sealed the points with a close in strike on 70 minutes with Sellars completing his treble with quarter of an hour left.

Queen's Park moved back into fourth place with a hard fought 1-0 win at Borough Briggs over Elgin. Paul Stewart scored in 11 minutes with a low shot from the edge of the box. Both sides had chances to net throughout the rest of the 90 minutes, but the Glasgow side held on to make their long journey south an enjoyable one.

Albion Rovers' match with Stranraer along with the meeting of Annan Athletic and Montrose were also victims of the weather.
