Third Division: Early strike by Armand One enough to take Stranraer into top spot

Stranraer took over top spot as a result of their 1-0 win over East Stirlingshire at Ochilview. Armand One scored the game's only goal in the first minute when he converted a cross from Stuart McColm.

With memories of the previous week's collapse at Montrose still fresh in his mind, Stranraer manager Keith Knox said: "We made a terrific start but fell away after that. Perhaps after last weekend the players felt they had to show they could grind out a result and that is what they did."

Annan moved second after unseating previous leaders Albion Rovers 4-1 at Galabank. On-loan Motherwell player Jordan Halsam scored either side of half time to put Annan two ahead before Steve Canning reduced the deficit midway through the second period. Bryan Gilfillan quickly restored the two-goal advantage and Chris Jardine finished things off with a fourth goal.

Annan manager Harry Cairney said: "There is more to come from this team."

Improving Montrose made it four games in a row without defeat when they held Berwick to a 1-1 draw at Links Park. Darren Gribben put Berwick in front after 25 minutes, but the home side hit back when Paul Tosh netted a penalty 10 minutes from time after Aaron Sinclair had been brought down.

Elgin rose to fifth spot after defeating Queen's Park 4-2 at Borough Briggs with Jason Crooks putting them on their way to the win after just two minutes. Ross O'Donoghue then netted a penalty in each half before an own goal from Mark Nicholson gave the Spiders some hope with 13 minutes left.

David Niven quickly re-established the three-goal cushion before Michael O'Hara netted a late second for the Hampden men.

Arbroath defeated bottom side Clyde 3-2 at Gayfield to win for the first time in five games. After a goalless first half Nicky Paterson put Clyde ahead only for Gavin Swankie to equalise and Stuart Malcom shot the home side ahead with 10 minutes left. Alan Lithgow looked to have rescued a point before former Hibs youngster Ross Chisholm had an Arbroath debut to forget as he was red-carded. However, Swankie won the game with a header two minutes from time with Clyde also reduced to 10 men when Neil McGowan was dismissed.
